ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Antonio Rey is one of the most well-known flamenco guitarists of today. He’s a true master of the instrument. His technique, pulsation, security, and precision touch, are the result of complete dedication and constant work over the years. It’s hardly surprising that he’s received awards in the most important flamenco competitions.

He was given the National Guitar Award in 2010, just as Paco de Lucía, Vicente Amigo and Paco Peña were before him.He was first noticed in 2007 when Gerardo Núñez decided to produce the young player’s first album A través de ti. It was with Colores de Fuego, an album for EMI Music published in 2011, in which his unique, inspired, and surprising guitar style really came through.

It was followed by Camino al Alma (2013), his thirdalbum, which proved to be a huge step in his musical maturity. With Dos Partes de Mi (2017) he refers to both his flamenco origins and the contrast with his now universal fame.

This brings us to 2020, the year in which he published Flamenco sin Fronteras with which he was awarded the Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Album.

After a long career accompanying some of the most important figures in flamenco –both singers and dancers –it’s time for his guitar to take center stage. He’s composed for and played alongside artists such as Antonio Canales, the Japanese dancer Yoko Komatsubara, Rafael Amargo, Richard Bona, and Farruquito. He also worked with the Maestro Paco de Lucía and accompanied him on tour.

“Pirouz Ebadypour “de Caspio” was born in Tehran, Iran and started studying classical music and theory from a very young age on Violin and Piano in addition to voice training and Solfege. He migrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1988 and graduated from the school of Computer Science in 2000. While attending university, he also started attending flamenco events around the city and eventually started studying the flamenco guitar. After several years and trips to Spain and listening to the likes of Camaron de la Isla, Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, and other great artists on cassette tape, he started studying flamenco singing with some great flamenco singers such as Enrique Soto, David Lagos, Manuel Tane, and Cristo Cortes to name a few. In satisfying his never-ending thirst for flamenco, with the help of his formal training in programming and knowledge of the digital world and the web, he created the first 24-hour online flamenco radio station in the world called “Flamenco Beat” and the very popular website “Flamenco.ca” to provide information and support the flamenco community in Canada in 2003 before Social Media, Youtube, etc. even existed! The radio station was endorsed by recognized Spanish flamenco artists such as Duquende, Tomatito, Vicente Amigo, Israel Galvan, and David Lagos to name a few and was featured in the popular Spanish flamenco publication ”Alma 100”. The link to the radio station was also shared on several popular flamenco websites in Spain. Simultaneously, he started one of Canada’s largest flamenco festivals called “Annual Internation Jondo Flamenco Festival” and developed it into a popular mainstay of the city during the month of May every year in partnership with universities, film festivals, the Georgia Straight, the Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society and other reputable organizations in Canada. As his artistic journey continued, financially supported by his professional career as an Engineer and a Mathematics teacher, he produced and appeared in hundreds of shows and worked with a multitude of local and internationally recognized and world-class artists across Canada and the US. In 2012, he also composed the flamenco music and managed the performer casting for the musical elements of the feature film “Kayan” which won several international awards in film festivals around the world. Now with over 20 years of experience as a flamenco singer and in working regularly with some of the best and highly regarded flamenco dancers and musicians in the US (Bay Area) for the past 7 years, he is now ready to take the next step as a singer and humbly share the stage with one the world’s most recognized and respected flamenco guitarists - Antonio Rey! “
