Nostalgia and Dreams is a solo exhibition by Zahra Mandana Fard. The paintings showcase her love for color, beauty, and delicate details as a counter balance to the harsh realities of a turbulent world around us, particularly in Iran and for women in Iran.
About the Exhibition
Zahra Mandana's paintings have personal and cultural connections -- from people and animals important to her, to the poetry and dialog which shaped her world view, to ancient and historical objects, designs, and symbols which connect Iranians to a rich history.
She describes the exhibition as "the nostalgia for a past I’m not sure even existed and the dreams of a tomorrow which may never come. The harsher the reality, the more delicate the artworks become, as if it’s the purpose of my art to soothe and heal the deepest wounds."
A painter, printmaker, photographer, and art history buff, Zahra Mandana has been a long-time friend of Diaspora Arts Connection and has been a sponsor of DAC's events, including Let Her Sing, over the years. We are excited to see her first major show since the pandemic. Please join us in celebrating her work!
