Impossible Stage

DAC is pleased to present our second annual event series, first announced in 2021. In 2022, Diaspora Arts Connection and Freight & Salvage, in collaboration with Persian Center, proudly presented the first rendition of Impossible Stage™ on Saturday, December 3 for an evening of amazing alternative music by South West Asian and North African musicians. Audiences were dazzled and inspired as a group of 16 musicians and vocalists took to stage under the musical direction of Vienna-based composer and instrumentalist Mahan Mirarab to perform improvisations of folk songs from Iran and Afghanistan with Jazz, Rock, and other Western influences. The harmonic arrangements that were presented used Microtonal Maqams from different regions of Iran and Afghanistan and a fusion of western music.

Performers included: Aida Shahghasemi, Elaha Soroor, Golnar Shahyar, Hamed Nikpay, Mahya Hamedi, Kiran Ahluwalia, Misagh Moradi, and Mohammad Khodadadi. Our vocalists were accompanied by musicians Asaf Ophir on wind instruments, Bahar Badiei on oud, Mahan Mirarab on guitar and fretless guitar, Mohammad Talani on guitar, Niloufar Shiri on kamancheh, Safa Shokrai on bass, and Yahya Alkhansa on drums. Join us for the upcoming performances of Impossible Stage!
