Let Her Sing® 2021: A Celebration of Female Voices

For the fifth year running, Diaspora Arts Connection was proud to present Let Her Sing® 2021: A Celebration of Female Voices, live at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on September 11.

Female vocalists from Iran, India, Afghanistan, and Lebanon and a group of exceptional international musicians came together on September 11 to celebrate the female voice; suppressed, censored, and threatened in parts of the world. It was a spectacular evening of exciting music and solidarity for the female voice. To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we invited some of the vocalists who have performed at our events in previous years. Our lineup this year featured Elana Sasson, Elnaz Abedini, Jasmine Kara, Kiran Ahluwalia, Mamak Khadem, Marjan Farsad, Sara Naeini, Sara Zare, Ustad Mahwash, and Naima Shalhoub who was our Master of Ceremonies again.

Our gifted Musical Director Erwin Khachikian returned to manage our stellar vocalists and musicians as did our amazing Artistic Director, Navid Ghaem Maghami.

We also partnered with Docunight to offer our Let Her Sing 2021 ticket holders free screenings of three excellent documentaries about female singers and the adversities they face in singing in Iran. Read more about Docunight by checking out their website below.
